5 minutes with natural beauty, Alex Power

I first met Alex when I was about 3 years old. My mum and her mum are friends, so, naturally we became friends too, getting lost in the play and fantasy world that little girls do so well. Although our lives went separate ways for many years, I was always keen to hear news from my mum about what Alex was up to on her travels. And then last year I heard that she was back on Aussie soil, and jumped at the possibility of catching up with my old friend who I hadn’t seen for 25 years. And there she was, as beautiful and bold and crazy and full of exuberant life as ever. A breath of fresh air!

I like to think that Alex and I were cut from the same mould, both as adventurous, nutty and curious as each other, but that would be egotistical of me, for they certainly broke the mould after creating my dear friend Alex. She is a walking and talking embodiment of living each day with complete presence, love and kindness, with the wind in her hair, dancing naked on a beach, adorable dog at her feet, living moment by moment, sprinkling seeds of joy wherever the universe takes her.

I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT … nature! So many years in NYC and I noticed how I craved nature. It grounds me. Also must have contact with animals. They make my heart sing. And love! Without love there is no point to living. Love can come from a variant of sources not always human although human love is bliss and the best fun… when it is 🙂

I RELAX BY … going swimming. Snorkling. Diving when it happens. Singing really connects me to my heart. Kundalini yoga. Actually most yoga if the teacher is divine or I am practicing alone in nature or with friends. Playing with animals. Horses … one day I will get my pony!

I LIKE TO … have fun! I just remembered this fact on my last trip to Europe which was like connecting with my “old self.” I have thrown myself so much into self reflection/spirituality/health the past years I forgot how fun it was to let loose dance wildly and have fun!

I THINK BEAUTY IS … nature. Beautiful people who smile from their hearts and glow inside and out. Animals. Beautiful spaces.

MY FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREATMENT THAT LEAVES ME LOOKING AND FEELING NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL IS … I am rather naughty about looking after my skin. Be Genki and Synthesis makes beautiful products. For me I have to focus on sun damage as am a sun worshipper but I believe a green juice, yoga, meditation, love and happiness is truly what makes you glow. I have noticed after certain retreats (like 40 day detox on fresh coconut water with a Sharman that incorporated dance in the Philippines and long meditations by the magical Ganga river in Rishikesh India) all my sun damage and wrinkles disappear and I quite simply glow!

MY NUMBER ONE BEAUTY TIP IS … smile from your heart and connect with nature. You will notice a difference in your beauty. Also try the kundalini yoga kriya for “Becoming enchantingly beautiful” for 40 days. People will start to comment about your radiance.

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PEARL OF WISDOM THAT YOU WISH YOU COULD BROADCAST TO THE WORLD? Be kind to everyone and everything. No matter how “perfect” someone’s world may seem you never know their internal battle and how a simple act of kindness could change their day.

WHAT IS IT INSPIRES YOU TO DO WHAT YOU DO? I have been so blessed in my life to have experienced many “different worlds” And whether it’s NYC, London, Kenya, Sydney or Paris everyone is looking for transformation on a soul level and I have been so lucky to have been taught the “tools” to help an individual find their heart song and inner bliss through kundalini yoga, meditation, healings or raw food. To see someone transform through focus and love is the most wondrously beautiful thing.
