5 MINUTES WITH
NATURAL BEAUTY,
LOUISE HAZEL:

INTERNATIONAL HEPTATHLETE AND GRADUATE IN FRENCH STUDIES

I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT … GHD Hair Straighteners and Laser Hair Removal! I have been receiving treatment on my bikini line and underarms from Harley Medical Group and the results have been incredible. As I am mixed-race my hair is very curly, dark and coarse. I found that constant shaving was leaving me with razor bumps and ingrown hairs. The LHR has completely eradicated these skin irritations and has reduced my hair regrowth significantly which has really boosted my body confidence.

I RELAX BY … meeting up with friends one night a week to have a sauna and jacuzzi and catch up on gossip at Edgbaston Priory Club.

I LIKE TO … get dressed up and going out for dinner or to swanky nightspots. My beauty must-haves this year are Illamasqua Dry Body Oil, Hollywood lashes, a tight dress and beautiful shoes, it’s important that I embrace my inner female and shrug off my inner tomboy from time to time.

I THINK BEAUTY IS … found on the inside. I have learnt that beauty is both an inner and outer quality and once you take care of yourself on the inside you’ll be amazed at how good you feel on the outside.

MY FRIDGE USUALLY CONTAINS … lots of fresh fruit and veg, yoghurt, fresh meat and fish and lots of fruit juice. Often I find an old mango lying about!!

MY EXERCISE ROUTINE IS … Hardcore!! 2 times per day, 6 days per week. I like to move it, move it!

MY FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREATMENT THAT LEAVES ME LOOKING AND FEELING NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL IS … a CO2 Chocolate Body Wrap at the Amala Spa, Hyatt Regency, Birmingham.

MY NUMBER ONE BEAUTY TIP IS … less is more, unless you are on a monster night out!

Louise Hazel has a deep-rooted need to achieve, constantly setting herself goals. A fluent French speaker, having lived in the South of France for one year, Louise graduated from the University of Birmingham with a Degree in French Studies. However, it is her champion achievements in athletics that has caught the attention of us all, as we watch Louise compete this year in the 2012 Olympic Games for England.

Louise Hazel’s debut came in 2006 at the European Championships, Sweden. On the first day of competition, she was lined up against former Olympic Champion Carolina Kluft for the 100m hurdles and 200m where she completed both races in personal best times. Louise ended the competition ranking her 11th Best British Heptathlete Ever! Which earned her the reputation of being an athlete that rises to the big occasions and reinforced her belief that:

“It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog!” Mark Twain

Following on from this success, Louise moved to France as part of her course at university, where she trained with the national decathlon squad. Unfortunately, the change of direction proved too much as her year was plagued by injury and Louise was unable to repeat the form that she had shown in 2006.

2008 proved to be a testing year and a turning point in her life. Still struggling with injury, and trying to cope with bereavement, Louise’s Lottery Funding was withdrawn, all whilst trying to successfully complete her final year exams. Her dream of competing at the Olympic Games in Bejing was shattered!

However, true to her nature Louise came bouncing back in 2009, twice as strong and twice as hungry. She smashed her personal best heptathlon score and booked a flight to the World Championships in Berlin, where she enjoyed the most amazing athletics experience and finished in 14th place, an achievement which seemed unattainable just 12 months before!

In 2010, Louise became the Commonwealth Heptathlon Gold Medallist for the England team, with a personal best. Quite the inspiration!
