FOUNDER OF BEAUTICATE

I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT … my beautiful son, Max, my amazing husband Damien and my cherished family and friends. As hard as we work to carve a niche in the world and make a worthwhile contribution, life would be pretty dark without the precious people we love to light it up.

I RELAX BY … jogging around the postcard-perfect harbourside walks around where I live in Sydney’s Mosman. I have a secret rock overlooking the water that’s hidden from the track and I peace out there and meditate in the sunshine. Bliss.

I LIKE TO … research recipes for great skin and hair and try them out. After doing a course with Cultured Artisans I’m currently fermenting Kombucha, water kefir, beet kvass, saurkraut and experimenting with raw cracker recipes in the dehydrator. I also tried sprouting and dehydrating buckwheat yesterday and I’m hooked! So crunchy, so full of nutrients! Stay tuned for some how-tos coming soon to Beauticate!

I THINK BEAUTY IS … a light in the heart and a warmth in the face. Beautiful people are those who smile, who are open and accepting and who see the beauty in others. A daily dose of facial oil helps, too.

MY FAVOURITE BEAUTY TREATMENT THAT LEAVES ME LOOKING AND FEELING NATURALLY BEAUTIFUL IS … a facial with Jocelyn Petroni at The Facial Room in Woollahra. She’s amazing – she has the most intuitive touch and she actually closes her eyes and meditates while she massages your face. It’s quite magic. I interviewed her on Beauticate, and we got to have a squiz inside her gorgeous home and enviable beauty cabinet.

MY NUMBER ONE BEAUTY TIP IS … Keep a jar of coconut oil in the bathroom (yep, the same kind you cook with), it’s an incredible body moisturizer (smells like summer!), hair treatment and it even removes makeup (as fashion blogger Margaret Zhang showed us on Beauticate)

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PEARL OF WISDOM THAT YOU WISH YOU COULD BROADCAST TO THE WORLD? Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. It was my primary school motto and it always stuck with me – so simple but so true. I think if you live life like that then you’re off to a pretty good start.

WHAT IS IT INSPIRES YOU TO DO WHAT YOU DO? I get a lot of lovely emails and comments on the site from readers who say that our videos and stories have changed the way they do their makeup or that they tried one of my tips and it really helped – that really motivates me to create more content and try to reach more women. It’s so exciting to be able to connect with the reader so quickly (it was never as immediate as that when I was working in magazines) The thought that I can help a woman feel more confident in her day to day life really drives what I do. And let’s face it, beauty is fun! I feel blessed to work in such a positive industry.
