tried and tested: HAUT cosmetics

Over the years I’ve come across a number of beautiful organic makeup ranges that blend beautifully to create an even complexion, enhancing the natural beauty of one’s features. However, when adding ‘vegan’ and ‘mica-free’ to the preference, the search for a brand that ticks ALL the boxes becomes nearly impossible. There are many vegan cosmetic ranges but unfortunately the majority include naturally derived (i.e. not so natural) ingredients and a number of ingredients that are rather questionable when it comes to potential toxicity. And then there’s mica that’s found in nearly every natural brand (that causes micro-tears to the skin due to the way in which mica is cut … rough sharp edges that can damage the surface of the skin). I had nearly given up my search when I stumbled upon HAUT  – a luxurious, organic, vegan cosmetics range from Canada, and now available here at Be Naturally You

HAUT cosmetics use only the most nourishing, healing ingredients that couple scientific knowledge and expertise with good old-fashioned practical sense. HAUT’s first and foremost priority is to ensure their products are safe to use, even by those with compromised and sensitive skin. Reading through the ingredient list of HAUT products was like someone had just turned the lights on again. What a joy to discover everything that I had been hoping for in a makeup range. The only step remaining was to place an order and do a personal trial.

What I ordered
HAUT Shea Brightener in Pink
HAUT Bio-Mineral Foundation in Burnt Almond
HAUT Aloe Cream Tint in Marble
HAUT Loose Tint in Marble

What I used to create my everyday look
After my morning skin care ritual, I applied HAUT Shea Brightener in Pink under my eyes and various other areas of my face to create an even complexion. Next up was a light brush all over with the HAUT Bio-Mineral Foundation in Burnt Almond to add a little hint of colour. For my eyes, just a subtle application of HAUT Aloe Cream Tint in Marble as an eyeliner followed by a quick curl of the lashes and lick of mascara. What I would have loved next is a little HAUT Aloe Cream Tint in He’s The One to apply to my cheeks and lips.

The nitty gritty
haut4HAUT Shea Brightener in Pink
The Shea Brightener in Pink was recommended for my light to medium skin tone. The ingredients of this brightener are nourishing for the delicate eye area and it only takes a few seconds to gently tap and blend in to the skin. The results really are dramatic. The HAUT brightener helps to hide dark circles under the eye and inner eye, as well as evening pigmentation helping to create an even all-over complexion.

I don’t usually go for mineral foundations but am extremely impressed with HAUT’s answer to loose mineral powders. There isn’t any dimethicone, talc, mica or bismuth oxychloride – common fillers that tend to dry out and irritate the skin. Instead, what’s inside are natural ingredients that work to heal skin for the long-term, clear congestion, and provide sun-protection.

haut2This little pot is my favourite from the HAUT range. I can’t wait to try all the other colours! They are easy to apply; long lasting; contain skin-loving ingredients; and can be used for as subtle or dramatic look as desired. I’ve been using it daily to subtlely accent my eye shape. And when going from daytime to nighttime look, all I need to do is layer a little of the HAUT Loose Tint in Marble for a more smokey looking eye.

HAUT  instantly won my heart, so much so that I am jumping for joy at the next step of bringing this beautiful brand to Australia in January 2014. It’s such a joy to find pearls of unique excellence like this in the world and share it with Australians who, like me, are looking for products that not only tick all the natural, organic, ethical, vegan boxes, but also those that perform better than anything else on the market. After all, although it’s a lovely way to be – making ethical choices – I don’t think we should have to compromise on quality. HAUT is THE answer to the way I believe natural cosmetics ought to be.

What’s more to love is the story behind the brand. Watch this space … next month on Be Naturallyou is an interview with Joanne, the oh so talented founder of HAUT cosmetics.
