I CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT … the love and support of my family and friends. I can’t live without being close to Nature. The older I get the more I understand and appreciate the interdependence and interconnectedness between all living beings.
I RELAX BY … practising conscious dancing. I attend both 5 Rhythms and Biodanza classes which help me to literally shake the stress, anger and sorrow out of my body, deeply connect with my body and emotions and also connect with other people in a meaningful way.
I LIKE TO … know everything! My husband says that it feels like he’s living with a walking and talking encyclopaedia. I just love to understand how things work especially anything to do with Nature, science or history. I’m one of those people who after watching a two hour movie will spend another two hours googling the subject the movie was based on. The downside of my reading habits is that I usually don’t get to bed until late!
I THINK BEAUTY IS … in the eye of the beholder. What I found beautiful a decade ago I don’t necessarily find beautiful today. From a purely physical point of view I think that most of us can agree that youthful looking skin and shiny, healthy hair is beautiful. It’s no surprise that so much time and money is spent on products and treatments for skin and hair!
However, if I think of people that I find truly beautiful, they don’t necessarily possess perfect skin or hair. Instead, they radiate that soft glow in their eyes and face that only inner peace and happiness can create.

MY NUMBER ONE BEAUTY TIP IS … I keep my skin well hydrated to give it a youthful glow. I drink plenty of water and use rich emollients to lock-in the moisture and slow down the water evaporation from my skin. I currently use Weleda’s Skin Food on my face, neck, hands and feet. I apply it in the morning and night time, and also do a few top-ups during the day when my skin feels dry. It contains lanolin, which has a very similar chemical structure to our own skin sebum and possesses the unique ability to absorb twice its own weight in water.
Another important tip is to protect your skin from sun damage. Research shows that 80% of skin ageing is caused by exposure to UV rays. I know that there has been a lot of news lately about Vitamin D deficiency, but I think it is wise to protect the delicate skin on your face, neck and hands from the sun.
I use a natural zinc sunscreen every day. At the moment I’m using Eco Face Sunscreen SPF 30+ which is the only natural sunscreen I find to be non-greasy and non-whitening.

Dr Fredrickson is not referring to romantic love but rather to positive interactions with others. Research have shown that by practising empathy and positive connection to ourselves and others on a daily basis can have significant benefits to our health. Every moment is an opportunity to do this practice, even in our everyday mundane interactions with people and other living beings.
